How should I practice during the week?
Here are two great things to do during the week to make the most of your music lessons:
1) Practice your assigned lesson materials right away the day after your lesson.
2) Mix old favorites into your practice routine.
If you don't put off practicing until later in the week ("Whoa! I have a lesson tomorrow?!?") and get to it right away, all the wonderful information you received during your lesson will still be fresh in your mind.
Also, playing a range of pieces from your repertoire (not just what is "due" the following lesson) will improve confidence and show progress. ("Hey, this is easier than back when I worked on it!") It also provides a varied use of practice time: You are not only putting in energy concentrating on the learning of a new concept or technique but also having some fun with things you already know!
